For security reasons, starting from 1 October 2025, access to FinanzOnline will only be possible with two-factor authentication or using ID Austria.
What does this mean for you?
From this date onward, two-factor authentication or login with ID Austria will be mandatory. Login without one of these options will no longer be permitted. This means that in addition to your usual username, PIN, and password, you will need to use the Authenticator app or log in with ID Austria.
How does two-factor authentication work?
Authentication is done via an Authenticator app. These apps generate a time-based code every 30 seconds, which must be entered after login. It is therefore important that the time is correctly set both on FinanzOnline and on your smartphone so that the codes match.
Alternatively, there are also desktop solutions for computers, so using a phone is not strictly necessary. However, we recommend setting it up using both a computer and a smartphone.
Once you have installed the application on your smartphone:
- Log in to FinanzOnline on your computer using your regular login credentials.
- In the top right corner of your FinanzOnline homepage, you will find the user menu. Select two-factor authentication there and follow the instructions.
The instructional video from the tax office shows you step by step how to set up two-factor authentication.
